Employee Free Choice Act

Congress will vote on the Employee Free Choice Act soon. So we need to work now to get the attention of our two US Senators.  Please utilize the links to tell Johnny and Saxby to do the right thing, Vote Yes on the Employee Free Choice Act. Both Senators have committed to vote against the Act and have spoken publicly in opposition to the Act but we can not let them think that everyone else shares that opinion. Please call them today and TELL them to do the right thing.  VOTE YES on Employee Free Choice and restore workers right to organize and bargain.

Tell them to stop the lies.  Tell them that the Employee Free Choice DOES NOT take away the right to a "secret ballot" it just takes that decision from companies and lets workers decide.

Tell them that today the so called secret ballot elections held on company property after numerous delays, threats of plant closure and after company supervisors or high paid consultants have interviewed each employee individually are not really  "secret" or fair and that you want that changed.

Tell them that today even if workers win one of the company rigged "secret ballot" elections the company can stall negotiations indefinitely, sometimes more than a dozen years and you want that changed.

Tell them that today companies can and do fire workers for trying to organize and they do it with impunity and that you want that changed.  Tell them the Employee Free Choice Act is the change workers need.

You probably will not get to speak to the Senator directly but tell there aide that you want things changed so workers can organzine and bargain.  If you don't do anything else this year to help your union...do this!

Subject: Vote for the Employee Free Choice Act

Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

I urge you to vote for the Employee Free Choice Act and to reject any limiting amendments that might be proposed.

The Employee Free Choice Act is the most important labor legislation in over 70 years. The Act will insure our freedom to bargain for better wages, benefits and working conditions. It is the key to rebuilding America's middle class and insuring working families a real chance for prosperity.

Today, less than 30 percent of Americans feel we're getting ahead financially--and less than a quarter of us believe our children's generation will be better off. Being able to bargain collectively provides the best way for working people to get ahead economically, to insure a better future for our children and to rebuild America's middle class.

I know corporate lobbyists are trying to convince you to vote against the Employee Free Choice Act. They are telling you that unions are trying to take away employees' "precious right to vote". This is not t rue. Employees will still be able to petetion for a vote. This legislation just insures they will have the right to a union without having to run a gauntlet of armed guards to get it. If this legislation denied employees the opportunity to vote to have a union the corporate lobbyist would not be saying a word about workers "right" to vote. Do you really think that Wall Street CEOs and Chamber of Commerece presidents care about workers' rights?

I want to be sure you are hearing my voice as well and that you understand the Employee Free Choice Act is the top priority for America's working families because it's our best chance to get ahead economically and will help blunt thepower of greedy Corporate CEOs.

The Employee Free Choice Act would restore workers' freedom to make our own choice about whether to have a union so we can bargain for a better life--without unfair interference and intimidation from management. We need this legislation because today's system for forming unions and bargaining is broken. Employers routinely coerce, intimidate, harass, threaten and even fire workers who dare to try.

It's time to change that--and you can do so by voting for the Employee Free Choice Act, with no limiting amendments.

Passage of the Employee Free Choice Act is extremely important to me. I will be watching the vote.

Sincerely,

What's At Stake:

The best opportunity working people have to get ahead economically is by uniting to bargain with their employers for better wages and benefits.  But the current system for forming unions and bargaining is broken. Every day, corporations deny workers the freedom to decide for themselves whether to form unions to bargain for a better life. They routinely intimidate, harass, coerce and even fire workers who try to form unions and bargain for economic well-being.

The Employee Free Choice Act, supported by a bipartisan coalition in Congress, would level the playing field for workers and employers and help rebuild America’s middle class.
